The administrative structure

Since the establishment of the Nephrology and Urology center - Mansoura University, an administrative structure has been done according to the international standards for medical facilities, to be an advanced international medical center in the field of Urology, Kidney Transplantation and its Diseases. Precautions to be observed when visiting

1. Patient's visits is daily 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm except Fridays and holidays from 10:00 am till 11:30 am.
2. Each patient are allowed to have three visitors daily and the tickets for visits are free.
3. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed.
4. For pediatric department one child (less than 10 years) plus the three persons are allowed to visits.
5. No food or drinks are allowed.
6. No bags are allowed, any bag will be leftoutside and the center is not responsible for it.

About the Pharmacy unit

 The pharmacy is proud to provide all the medication services to all patients, including patients in inpatients departments, and patients in outpatients clinics and health care providers (center staff) as an integral part of the health care program for patients included in the nephrology and urology center's mission The pharmacy staff works in a coordinated and integrated way with the caregivers to improve the service given to the patients by distributing drugs cost-effectively and preventing or detecting and solving any medication-related problems

Services and Tasks
Pharmacy services have been organized to enable the medication therapy and other health care services to meet the needs of patient

The pharmacy administration consists of:

 Inpatient Pharmacy
 It is responsible for covering the needs of patients in all departments, including urology , nephrology , intensive care, recovery ICU, dialysis,, operations , laparoscopy, E.S.W.L, laboratories, radiology, special units such as chemotherapy
The inpatient pharmacy divided into:
1): inpatients pharmacy:
Which is responsible for the dispensing of medication for patients in various inpatient departments, whether nephrology, urology or renal transplant patients
Consists of three sections:
• Section for vials and ampoules
• Section y for tablets and capsules
• Section for medical supplies
  These three sections provide the required medication 24/7
There are also stores for the pharmacy which include:
1) Main medication Store:
It is the main store responsible for the financial tenders and communication with companies to provide different medications needed for the center within reasonable time and price
2) Medical supplies stores:
This store is responsible for providing the medical supplies for the center departments, including medical supplies for surgeries and hemodialysis unit
Purchasing section:
 This section provides all kinds of medication (which is not available at the center) for inpatients by contracting with an outside pharmacy the inpatient pharmacy of the center is working 24/7 and during the official holidays through rotatory shifts according to work needs
Pharmacists in the inpatient pharmacy perform the following tasks:
• Daily medication dispensing for each patient, writing the patient's name, number, section, name of medication, concentration, method of administration, number of doses and expiry date.
• Place the red sticker on the high alert medication and green sticker on the look alike and sound alike medications and ensure that these items have been reviewed and double checked.
• Review the medication orders on the computer and write orders for dispensing medications from stores
• The monthly inventory and checking the expiry dates
• Monthly checking on the emergency stock of medication in various center departments
 

Outpatient pharmacy:
The pharmacy is responsible for dispensing treatment to patient in the outpatient clinics where the pharmacy serves the following categories:
1) Renal transplant patients
2) Hemodialysis patient
3) Urology patient
4) Oncology patient
 

Research Unit

ANIMAL RESEARCH FACILITY
One of the important departments of the urology & nephrology center , started working with the official opening of the center in 1983.

The aim of the animal research facility was to achieve the following goals :

• Afford a suitable place for researchers to accomplish their researches .
• International training courses are held to train doctors for all over the world on the latest progress in the field of urology & nephrology.
• Doctors accomplish their practical part of scientific thesis (masters – MD) in the animal research facility.
• Summer training of medical students.

The animal research facility (ARF) compromises :
A highly equipped operation theater suitable for different experimental surgical procedures, together with a sterilization unit , a kitchen for preparing meals for experimental animals & finally a laboratory unit ( tissue culture lab. , molecular biology lab.).
Staff members of the animal research facility :
A number of highly trained veterinarians, assisted by nurses , together with a secretary & workers.

Medical Services

Procedures for admission of patients to the department

1. Patient recieving.
2. The admission papers of the patient is received by the assigned nurse.
3. ThePatient identification band is put around the patient wrist by the nurseThe patient is taken to his room and get an quick orientation about his room by the nurse..
4. The patient is taken to his room and get quick orientation about his room by the nurse.
5. The patient file is prepared with the treatment sheet.
6. The specialist is called by the nurse.
7. A full history taking, patient examination and patient assessment is done by the specialist.
8. Taking and recording the vital signs is done by the nurse.
9. Any abnormalitie in the vital signs should be reported to the specialist.
10. Any laboratorie and radiology reports should be attached to the patient file.
11. Lab and radiology requests done electronically by the nurse and the specimenes are sent to the lap and the patient is sent to radiology department with the nurse.
12. Lab and radiology results are sent from laboratories department and radiology electronically on the patient information system.
13. In case the patient may need blood transfusion during his surgery, blood request is done electronically on the PIS by the nurse with sending a patient specimen for blood grouping and crossmatch to the blood ban.
14. The nurse makes sure that the is available bloode for the patient with double check the information on the blood bag.
15. In case of ECC requested by the specialist, the ECG report should be attached to the patient file.
16. ThePatient is seeing by the anathesiologist for preoperative assessment .
17. Surgical concent is signed by the patient or one of his relatives.
18. In case of nephrectomy/ renal transplantation another concent is sjgned by both the donor and the recipient.
19. The site of surgery is prepared by the nurse according to the instruction.
20. The surgery special clothes is given to the patient (surgical gown, overhead, overshoes, elastic socks for major and long surgery).
21. The patients hould take a shower and wear the surery special clothes.
22. Jewelry, dentures, eye contact lenses, nail polish and hair pins should be taken of befor the surgery.
23. The patient must be fasting, otherwise the specialist should be notified and the surgery be postponed.
24. Trolley is prepared by the nurse to transport the patient to the theater.
25. preoperative medication is given to the patient according to the instruction given to the nurse.
26. At the time of the surgery the nurse recived a phone call from the operation room to transport the patient.
27. The patient is put on the trolley by the nurse.
28. The elevator is called by the nurse to transport the patient to the operation room.
29. The patient is accompinied by the nurse with his file wich include: pre operative steps done - the surgery concent - all the investigation reports done to the patient - all radiological reports don to the patient.
30. The operation room nurse recived the patient with his file.
31. The operation room nurse double check the patient information in his file.
32. In case there is a need for blood transfusion during the surgery the operation room calls the nurse in the floor to deliver the blood.
33. The operation room secretary goes to the blood bank to bring the blood. 
34. After the surgery, the recovery room nurse calls the floor's nurse.
35. If the patient will transfer to the ICU, the floor's nurse send the personal belongings of the patient to the ICU.
36. If the patient will transfer to the floor, the nurse calls the elevator to transfer the patient.
37. The floor's nurse recieves the patient.
38. The floor's nurse double check: the consiousness level of the patient, the urinary catheter, the ryle's tube, chest tube, CVP catheter and the drain tube.
39. The nurse check the patient file: the radiology and the lab reports, the surgical report, the medication sheet and the after surgery medication sheet. 
40. The operation room secretsry send the specimen to the pathology lab and keeps the lab request at the patient file.
41. The patient is transfered to his bed and is put at the position required accordng to the instructions given.
42. The nurse check the tubes connected to the patient and makes sure no bleeding. 
43. Patient's vital signes is checked by the nurse every 15 minutes for the first two hourse after the surgery, every 30 minutes for the second two hours after the surgery every hour for 4 hours and every 4 hour after that and record it in the patient's file.
44. The nurse observe the patients : conciousness level, color, his movement, the catheter and records it in the patient's file.
45. The nurse requests the medication from the pharmacy.
46. If the pharmacy is closed the nurse brings the medication from the emergency stockm then the stock should be setteled after that.
47. Infection control instruction should be followed in every stepdealing with the patient.
48. The floor nurse should follow the physician instruction regarding post operation investigation and radiology.
49. The floor nurse should take a blood sample and send alab request for the lab investigation reyleased by the physician, and send aradiology request according to the physician order.
50. The floor nurse  should record the medication and the fluid taken by the patient.
51. The floor nurse should recordthe fluid chart for the patient.
52. The floor nurse should record the general nurse note and inform the physician incase of any abnormalitics.
53. The floor nurse should record the consumalle in tjhe patient's file.

The Center concern is the health awareness of the patients by following the most recent international studies and researches.

As apart of the quality system the system is focusing on the education and health awareness which is working on providing the best health care for all the patient and providing the best educational and medical services.

What are the kidney transplant costs for the egyptian patient?

Since the urology and nephrology center is one of the governmental university centers, the kidney transplantation is totally free for the egyptian patient.

Since its establishment by the international surgeon prof dr/ Mohammed Ghoneim, the center was keen to do the kidney transplantation tottaly free of charge and the health insurance (for those who are covered The egyptian students and employees) or the medical committee (for the rest of the patient)pay a part of the expenses.

The kidney transplantation service include:

• Preparation of both the donor and the patient includingmedical examination and investigation needed.
• The kidney transplantation surgery.
• After surgery follow up and treatment for life.

What about the donor?

The Urology and Nephrology Center is one of the governmental university hospital who follow the ethical and legal standards applied in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Therefore, the  kidney donor should be one  of the first degree relatives or the spouse for the patient and the only exeption is for medical courses which can prevent the surgery and should be documented at the hospital according to the regulations and law of the hospital and the egyptian medical syndicate.

And the exception not include:

• Travelling of the potentiel donor.
• Not cnvenced with the idea of donating his kidney.
• Objection of the idea by the husband (for female donor).
• Other non medical causes

What are the steps to start kidney transplant procedures?

• Attendance of the patient and potential donor of the first degree relatives with personal identification and any previous tests, if any
• Cutting the ticket for the preparation of kidney transplant for the first time in the outpatient clinic of the Center for Nephrology and Urology Mansoura University at 7 am on Saturday and Wednesday except public holidays priority attendance (limited ticketing)
• The medical examination will be signed on the same day

What next steps?

• The patient and the donor will be notified of what will be done later, and this may vary depending on the medical condition
• The patient and the donor are hesitant at the outpatient clinic during the preparation period for the kidney transplant according to the doctor's instructions
• Please be aware that preparation for kidney transplant in the center takes time varies according to each case may be preparing quickly in one month only in some cases or may be extended to 6 months or more and it can be said that the preparation usually takes about 3 months

What about renal dialysis before transplantation?
If the patient is on a pension, he or she begins the dialysis sessions. He does the usual laundry sessions outside the center.

Are there awareness booklets?
Free education pamphlets are distributed to patients visiting the center including:

• Patient awareness booklet on kidney transplantation
• Manuals to inform patients who have undergone kidney transplantation including dieting system, treatment

What about non-Egyptian patients?

For non-Egyptian patients, the donor must be a relative and if this is not available for medical reasons it is possible to accept a donor from outside the family. In any case, under any circumstances, the donor must be of the same nationality as the patient
For the family of different nationalities, according to the Egyptian law, it is permissible to implant between the sons of an Egyptian mother and a foreign father among them all. If the patient and the donor are the spouses, it is stipulated that the marriage is still valid and that this marriage has been at least three years As legally established to document marriage contracts

About the training and rehabilitation in the hospital
Own staff training must be based on the needs of these training staff and take into account the functional aspirations and possibilities for their progress up the career ladder of the institution. Recognizing the importance of the hospital for rehabilitation and training big role in the development and rehabilitation of competent manpower (medical, technical and managerial) adopted the following basis:

Pediatric Urology Unit

About US
The pediatric urology unit was established in the year (1997). Surgeries of the genitourinary system in children in Mansoura Urology and Nephrology center have gained a good reputation worldwide as a result of the scientific contribution of the center in this subspecialty.
Our team comprises dedicated professors and consultants providing pediatric urology services only and not managing adult urologic patients. The team comprises also experienced nursing staff, technicians and administrative staff. All of them cooperate to improve the service provided to the children.
The unit provides comprehensive management of pediatric urology disorders not only in the inpatient ward (ward F1; a dedicated ward for children with genitourinary disorders) but also in the outpatient clinics. All necessary investigations and X-rays are provided in the hospital. All pediatric urology disorders whether those needing surgery or those requiring only medical treatment are being managed by our team.
About 1000 surgeries are performed yearly by our team and more than 8000 patients are seen by our doctors in the outpatient clinics yearly, this is not only for children from Mansoura but also the center is the tertiary referral center for all complex genitourinary disorders requiring special surgical expertise not only from Egypt but also from other Arabic and African countries and from all over the world.
Clinical and experimental research represents a cornerstone in the philosophy of pediatric urology department. Continuous medical education is critical for us not only for the undergraduates but also for the postgraduates preparing for the masters and doctoral degrees.

With a wide range of services in the fields of urology, nephrology and medical research in general, Urology & Nephrology center is a national pride. With over 190 physicians and 635 nurses and almost 1000 technicians and employees serving 270 beds spreading over the main hospital, Minyet Samanoud branch and outpatient building, it is the largest urological facility in the middle-east.

Since 1983, it served as an educational, training and treating facility. In 2017, more than 320000 patients were seen in OPD and 13500 were treated in wards.

Today after more than 35 year in service the center is looking forward to new horizons in clinical service and research models and as ever, this endeavor is relying on the support of Egyptians foremost as well as our patients and friends from all over the world.

الوحدة معتمدة من قبل منظمة الصحة العالمية وجمعية الشرق الأوسط لزرع الأعضاء بالاضافة إلى الأمريكية لزرع الأعضاء لتدريب طلاب الزمالة فى هاتين الجمعيتين، كما يجرى تدريب أطباء زمالة الكلى المصرية بالوحدة

تقدم وحدة الكلى خدمة متكاملة وشاملة تغطى جميع جوانب أمراض الكلى وعلاجها بما فى ذلك زراعة الكلى. وقد افتتحت هذه الوحدة مع افتتاح المركز فى عام 1983

ويساهم القسم مساهمة فعالة فى تدريب العاملين فى المجال الطبى والطبى المساعد غضافة غلى الخدمات الطبية التى يوفرها، وإجراء الأبحاث فى ميدان امراض الكلى والتوعية الصحية العامة والتنسيق مع القطاعات الطبية الأخرى فى ميدان أمراض الكلىز ومنذ إفتتاحه فى عام 1983م سعت الوحدة سعياً حثيثاً لتحقيق الأهداف المتمثلة فى توفير خدمة على اعلى المستويات الممكنة، وتقديم خدمة تغطى جميع جوانب أمراض الكلى بما فيها زراعة الكلى.

ويشمل العمل فى قسم الكى توفير التشخيص والعلاج للمرضى الذين يعانون من أمراض الكلى بما فيها الفشل الكلوى المزمن والحاد والالتهاب الكلوى النسيجى، وزراعة الكلى والالتهاب الكلوى الكبيبى والمتلازمة الكلوية، وارتفاع ضغط الدم والتهاب الكلية واختلال توازن الملاح. ولقد بلغ برنامج زراعة الكلى مستوى باهر من حيث معدلات نجاح عمليات الزراعة، وبقاء المرضى على قيد الحياة (فقد وصل معدل هذا النجاح غلى 95% سنوياً فى مجال زراعة الكلى من أقرباء أحياء).

وتقوم وحدة الكلى بمتابعة ما يزيد على 70 حالة حمل ناجحة لنساء سبق أن أجريت لهن عمليات زراعة كلى.
ولقد حققت وحدة الكلى ككل عدداً من الإنجازات فى مجالالكلى ، حققت أول الإنجازات فى مجال زراعة أول كلية من قريب حي فى عام 1976 وأخيراً قدمت الوحدة ما يزيد على 400 بحثاً فى المؤتمرات العلمية المحلية والدولية ونشر ما يزيد على 300 بحث فى المجلات المحلية والدولية البارزة.

وحدة الكلى الصناعى
يقوم المركز بعمل الغسيل الدموى لمرضى الفشل الكلوى الحاد وحالات الفشل الكلوى المزمن التى تم تجهيزها لإجراء عملية زرع كلى بالمركز.
والوحدة تعالج مرضى نفقة الدولة والقوات المسلحة والتأمين الصحى وطلاب الجامعات والشركات والهيئات المحولون للمركز.
الوحدة تسع 100 مريضاً بعدد 2 دورة على مدار اليوم (بمجمع عيادات جيهان).

About UNC

Nephrology and urology center at Mansoura University is considered one of the first and largest medical and scientific centers in the Middle East specialized in the treatment of kidney diseases, urology and kidney transplantation surgeries
The center was established as a result of the sincere efforts and generosity offered by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Ghoneim (the former director center and its founder) and the professors of the Department of Urology Surgery at Mansoura University. The beginning of its establishment goes back to 1977 after The visit of the previous President Anwar Sadat to the urology department at the university hospital during his visit to the Mansoura city, to learn about the scientific accomplishment done by this department, which led him to recommend the establishment of this center as an Egyptian project taking Egypt to the global prospects.
This Center was established as an independent technically, financially and administratively unit by the decision of the Supreme Council of Universities on 8/8/1981.
The President of the Republic, President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, officially open the center in May 1983 since then The Center provides its distinguished medical services to all Egyptians citizens, in addition to patients from the Arab and African countries. This center is one of the first specialized medical institutions in the Arab Republic of Egypt, which provides all the services at one place by adopting the philosophy of integration between the various activities that are carried out, which is health, therapeutic, research, educational and training services.

Outpatient Clinics

The Outpatient Complex of the Center for Nephrology and Urology - Mansoura University was opened in 2009 and since this date, the building is providing services to patients all over the Arab Republic of Egypt The building includes clinics for nephrology and urology patients. It provides all services needed by patients including radiology and laboratories services, as well as an urodynamic unit and a special unit for prostate diseases.

Samannoud Branch

It is a subsidiary hospital of the center, located in the center of the town of Samannoud/ Aga city in Dakahlia governorate, which was designed, prepared and equipped to suit the level and the cultural form that characterizes the main center. It was opened by the Prime Minister in May 2003.

Urology Department

The urology and nephrology center is not only one of the largest scientific centers in the Middle East, but also one of the largest specialized centers in dialysis, renal transplantation and oncourology.
The urology department is considered one of the most important departments in the center as is receiving patient from other Arab countries.
The center is one of the first specialized centers in the field of health care, which is concerned with research and educational services beside the medical services.
The department provides medical care services for patients from all over the world where patients are seen at the outpatient clinics and admitted to the hospital for surgery of medical treatment
The department also arranges training courses for physician from all over the world on doing surgery and training at the animal house at the center.
The department sends his physician on training courses all over the world for experience exchange.
 

The most important research field in the department:

1. Cystectomy and urinary diversion field
The center is considered one of the leader centers at this field; the center is performing 20 cystectomy and urinary diversion surgery/ month.
More than 1500 cystectomy cases are done since 1983 and the patient survival rate is more than 40%.

2. The renal transplantation field
The first renal transplantation surgery done at 1977 in the urology department at Mansoura university hospital, since then 1500 cases of renal transplantation surgery were done with a success rate of more than 90 % at the end of the first year.

3. The Field
Bladder tumor removal is done by cystoscopy also, bladder, ureteric, kidney stones since 1992 nephrectomy is done by laparoscope and cystectomy are done since 2003.

4. The pediatric urology field
There is a department for pediatric urology surgeries with 20 beds, surgeries for simple congenital detects e.g, hypospadius and major congenital defects e.g, ectopic kidney

5. The urine incontinence field
Surgeries for treatment of urine incontinence in female is done since 1993, 200 surgeries are done till now and more than 60 surgeries for treatment of urethral congenital anomalies in female, plus surgeries for treatment of urinary incontinence resulting from prostatectomy in males.

 
6. Urodynamic unit
These units established at October 1998, about 21,000 cases are investigated for uroflowmetery, and more than 3500 investigated urodynamically.
The unit also helps in the urinary incontinence and functional defect in urination diagnosis plus the evaluation of incontinence surgeries in males and females.

Information Technology Unit

Vision and objectives:
The information technology department at the nephrology urology center is a main pillar of the Center's leadership and planning pillars The department provides an integrated system of information management and ease of trading information between the various departments of the center, which facilitates the processing of data and create a work system which is not based on paper to improve the service and to direct the time of the medical and administrative staff to the medical care service.
The information technology department also provides an electronic network to connect all departments of the hospital, including nursing, inpatients departments, radiology department, pharmacy, outpatient clinics and minyet sammanoud branch.
In addition, the department is always committed to an effective role by using the highest level of technical services and technical support, in addition to enhancing, facilitating the healthcare services, data management, operation and scientific research inside and outside the center.

Duties:
• providing many servers for health information systems management at the center and data storage to create central data base.
• Manage different information systems in the center (such as booking dates, stores, workers affairs, accounts, ... etc).
• networks design and digital infrastructure.
• providing computers and its regular maintenance.
The Health Information Systems is considered one of the most prominent information systems in the center and has the most important impact on the medical performance in the center and its branches.

Health Information Systems at the Center
   Medical records development at the Center:
The process of medical records development in the Center has gone through many stages before reaching its recent image.
Where the medical records or what we call the patient file is one of the basic pillars of the healthcare process.
These records gain its importance from the fact that it saves all patient information starting from the patient personal information and comprehensive medical treatment, all laboratories and radiological reports, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up reports and important medical decisions.
These medical records were kept in hand written papers in the form of files. Over the past 40 years, with the development of information technology, the center started using the electronic medical records, and transfers all the data through the information networks.
since its establishment , the center was the leader in the application of the medical record system. Between 1981 and 1996 the idea of having a special section of medical records in the form of paper files was applied, the staff of this section arrange the files and save them and provide what is needed by the physicians and researchers. The first type of electronic medical record was first introduced according to the available technological capabilities at this time, and was originally targeting to follow up the basic data and some little medical information for the patient.
   Digital Medical Information Technology:
With the introduction of the application of digital information technology in medical institutions, the center began to focus on the medical data of the patient as a central hub for the medical record to link its information and arrange it. Tests results and reports became functionally linked.
in 1996, the center was targeting to create a system to collect the global health data systems supported by the network system by dealing with global databases as well as measurable standards for global health care providers, most notably HL7 and DICOM.
The Center has also strengthened the implementation of this goal by establishing an integrated digital medical information network using the most popular international and local companies in the field of medical systems, including radiology, laboratories and medical statistics to facilitate the transfer of data between the various departments involved in the patient medical record
The most important of these is the Radiological Information System (RIS), a system for archiving and transferring medical images (PACS). These systems are integrated computer systems that store, distribute, display, and it was connected to the radiology devices in the center, and this was activated by a host of servers and storage media with large storage capacity and high speed of access. In addition, there is a connecting network with a fast digital structure. The system also includes a set of data acquisition controllers. Viewing stations and data entry stations
One of the most important characteristics of the patient information network is that the user, especially the doctor, directly records the medical information on the computer. Which is more accurate and reliable way, it also provides communication between the users in the center in different buildings (the main building, the outpatient clinics complex and the Minyet Samannoud branch).

Challenges
Although the current system works effectively and efficiently, the center is always keen to keep pace with modern medical systems, which are rapidly developing internationally with high quality specifications and the development of equipment and software technology, supporting the concept of integration for which the idea of this system was created, And provide more technical support.
For this reason, the center is in the process of developing the patient information system in a more integrated manner, including many points and the most important points are:

Laboratories: which aims to follow the flow of medical tests that takes place in the center starting from the registration of the laboratory requests of patients, and arranging these requests in a daily work list then the distribution of these tests on the corresponding analytical equipment , and waiting for the results to be transferred digitally not manually ending with storing these results on the patient information system.
Pharmacy: aims of linking the physicians' medications orders of the patient so that the instructions are integrated and transferred to the pharmacy to be implemented by the pharmacist.
Nursing: in terms of linking the doctor's various orders either laboratory tests, radiology request or medication orders so it can be implemented by the Nursing staff
And this is in order to achieve the maximum level of integration in the patient medical file to raise the efficiency of the center's medical service.

The Outpatient clinics of for Nephrology and Urology center - Mansoura University was opened in 2009 and since then it offers the service for patients all over the country
The building includes outpatients clinics for kidney and urology patients. It provides all healthcare services needed by patients includingradio diagnosis and laboratories services, as well as aurodynamic unit and a unit for prostate diseases.

Working hours

Saturday to Wednesday from 8:00am until the end of the cases for follow-up cases, and from 12:00 pm until the end of the cases for new cases.

The unit is accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation and the American Society of Transplantation.

The unit offer training for the candidates of the Egyptian fellowship program.

Dialysis and kidney transplantation unit offers an integrated and comprehensive service covering all aspects of kidney disease and its treatment, including kidney transplantation.

This unit was opened with the opening of the center in 1983.

The Unit contributes with an effective way in the training of medical and paramedical personnel in addition to the medical services, and research in the field of kidney disease and public health awareness with the coordination with other medical sectors in kidney diseases field.
Since its opening in 1983, the unit works hard to achieve its goals which are providing high quality medical services covering all aspects of kidney diseases including kidney transplantation service.
The unit provides diagnosis and treatment for patients with kidney disease including acute and chronic renal failure, kidney transplantation, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, hypertension, and nephritis. The renal transplant program has achieved remarkable successful rates in in survival rate of the patients (this rate reached the 95% per year in kidney transplantation from relatives).
over 70 pregnant women (whose undergone previous successful kidney transplant surgery) are follow up their pregnancies at the unit.
The unit has achieved great achievements in the nephrology fields. The first achievement was kidney transplantation for a patient from aliverelative in 1976.the unit has submitted more than 400 scientificresearchers at local and international scientific conferences and published more than 300 scientificresearches in prominent local and international journals
 

Heamodialysis Unit
The unit performs hemodialysis for patients with acute and chronic renal failure for patients who are prepared for kidney transplantation.
The unit provides medical care for patients covered with health insurance, armed forces students of universities.
The Unit accommodates 100 patients with 2 shifts throughout the day (at the Gihan outpatient clinics complex).

Radiology Unit

Radiology unit of the main center was built up together with the center at (1983), and was containing X-ray unit, ultrasonography unit, angiography unit and gamma camera unit.

The unit was developed at (1991) by adding CT scanner which is replaced with another new one at (2007). MRI (1.5 T) was added at 1998 and replaced by new one (3T) at (2016).
Another two units were built up in Samanoud branch containing X-ray unit and ultrasonography unit and another in outpatient clinic building containing X-ray unit, ultrasonography unit and CT scanner which was replaced by new one at (2014).
The radiology unit was including (Prof. Tarek El-Diesty, Prof. Mohamed El-Azab, Prof. Hossam Gad and Dr. Usama Mansour).
Now in (2016) the unit including Prof. Hossam Gad (head of the unit), Prof. Tarek El-Diesty, Prof. Mohamed AbouElGhar, Prof. Houda Refaii and Dr. Essam AbouBieh with another eight radiologists with MSc. Degree and eleven residence with another eight radiologists with MD degree and seconded to work abroad.

The laboratories unit

The Urology and nephrology Center has a good reputation as the leading Urology and nephrology center in the Middle East in the field of kidney transplantation and Urology, which is incomparable. Therefore, we adhere to the professional spirit, commitment and quality standards in the Urology and nephrology center laboratories 

The quality and accuracy of our diagnostic tools are trustable as we have a team of professional specialists including competent physicians with the great experience and excellence in Egypt, beside best medical analyzers.

The laboratories department was established in 1982. It includes chemistry lab, hematology lab, immunology lab, pathology lab, microbiology lab, blood bank, and immunological and molecular biology lab. As well as the flowcytometry Laboratory, which is located at the main building of the center.

The laboratories department for the Outpatient clinics and Mania Samannoud branch has been established. These labs perform all tests for the patients before their admission and for outpatient clinic's patient. All laboratories staff includes 12 physicians, 56 chemists and laboratory technicians.
